A new year is upon us and so is the never-ending lists of resolutions. I am no different from anyone else. How many years did I make that “I will lose weight and get healthy” resolution? Honestly, too many to count. There are also the old standbys of “get more organized” and “save more money”. Yep, I made those also. Only one time in all those years did I follow through. People, I am 51 years old and I have had ONE successful resolution. One out of let’s say 41(I’m pretty sure I didn’t make any before the age of ten) resolutions. This year I am changing things up. I am taking the plunge. Today is the day. I am going to take the next 365 days and share them with the world. I am not gonna lie, I am a bit nervous. I am not very comfortable with being so open. What am I doing? Can I really do this? Well, I certainly won’t know if I don’t try. Here goes nothing, and everything, all at the same time.
Most of you, if not all of you, reading this either know me personally or through one of my family members or friends. For those of you that are meeting me for the first time I am going to share some details of My Simply Splendid Life. Without further adieu. . .
“The KC Top Ten”
- For the past 29 1/2 years I have been married to Shawn. Seriously. We have been together over three decades. Are we even that old? Apparently we are. He is my biggest fan and I am his. We are complete opposites, but that seems to be the mojo that makes us work.
- I am a momma to two amazing young people. Xantiana is 28, married to Kyle, and a photographer. She is extremely talented, has a zest for life and vibrant personality. Noah, 11, is the coolest kid on the planet. He is a bundle of energy with an impressive imagination. He has a passion for dinosaurs and has a dream to one day become a world-famous paleontologist. Yes, there is a 17 year age gap. Long story. I will definitely share one day. I’m also a bonus mom to Nick, who is married to Jaime. He is bright, witty and has a terrific laugh. I’m super proud of all three of these kiddos.
- I am also an “angel” momma. Our son Elijah was born in 2006. At our 20 week ultrasound, he was diagnosed with PUV. This is a rare disease, occurring in 1 in 8000 births. It only affects boys. He was born at 31 weeks and lived for mere hours. His life/death taught me more than I can ever learn in my lifetime.
- I love all things from the “Wizarding World”. Harry Potter is my spirit animal. Just kidding. Maybe. The books, the movies, gadgets and gizmos. You name it, I love it. I am a proud Hufflepuff.
- Coffee. Coffee. Coffee. It is highly likely that the blood running through my veins is infused with a lovely blonde roast. If not coffee, then chocolate. YUM!
- I love the beach. I love the desert. I love the mountains. I love going on vacation. Plain and simple
- We are a homeschooling family. It is challenging, hectic, time-consuming and completely worth every minute.
- My dad has Alzheimer’s. He is an amazing man, who is facing incredible challenges daily. I will definitely be sharing more on ALZ.
- In February of 2016(this is it folks, my one succesful resolution) I made a drastic change to my life. I embarked on a journey of health and wellness. In the last 2+ years I have lost and maintained an over 80 pound weight loss. I have never felt better. I LOVE to hike and do yoga. I love to share ideas and strategies for living a healthy and active lifestyle.
- I am an avid reader. All genres. My favorites are mysteries and suspense. I also like a good science fiction book and have been known to partake in a fun romance novel or two. My all time favorite book is The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin. My all time favorite series is, of course, Harry Potter.
That’s it. You now know everything there is to know about me. At least until your next visit to TSSL. Until then, have a great week and I hope your 2019 is filled with peace, joy and adventure. Don’t be afraid to take a chance and step outside your comfort zone.
Take care of you!
Kim
